Description

Kunzea is a shrub native to Tasmania. There is a particular story behind the production of this essential oil. It was first distilled in 1993, mainly out of curiosity. An essential oil producer (the same one who began producing Fragonia oil) noticed that the metal fence around his land was not rusty in one particular area. Intrigued, he looked at the vegetation growing there. He found a shrub that did not grow in other parts of the estate. He ruled out the possibility that its branches were protecting the fence and suspected that the shrub must produce an essence with powerful antioxidant properties. He then decided to distil the plant. The producer says that this essential oil helped him regain his sense of smell, which he had lost through anosmia caused by an accident at work.
Following this fortunate recovery, the producer wanted to learn more about the properties of the essential oil and sought people willing to help by using it for various problems. The results were mostly satisfactory and surprising.

The interesting properties of Kunzea essential oil motivated its production. As with Fragonia essential oil, Dr. Penoël brought it to Europe and introduced it to a wider audience.
