Description
Aleppo Pine (Pinus halepensis) belongs to the Pinaceae family and is characteristic of the Mediterranean climate. This essential oil comes from wild trees and protected areas without cultivated crops, although it also has organic certification. Originating in Occitania (Southern France), it is obtained by steam distillation of the tree’s twigs and needles, using pruning material and ensuring a pure, natural aromatic profile while protecting and caring for the environment.
It is valued in perfumery, natural cosmetics and aromatic formulations; its fresh, resinous aroma makes it an excellent choice for scenting spaces and for hygiene and wellbeing products.
It has been used since antiquity both in traditional medicine and in the production of resins and highly durable timber.
Aleppo Pine (Pinus halepensis) takes its name from the ancient city of Aleppo in Syria, although its distribution is typically Mediterranean. It is found in Spain, France, Italy, Greece, North Africa and the Middle East.
The Greeks and Romans used it for ships and buildings because of its strong, resin-rich wood, while its resin was used to preserve wine (Retsina) and in religious rituals.
In the Arab world, its essential oil has traditionally been used for its balsamic and purifying properties, and in the Mediterranean it was commonly used in steam baths and herbal blends to strengthen the body and relieve respiratory problems.
It is said that the Phoenicians and Carthaginians used its resin to waterproof ships and protect tools from corrosion. In some cultures, Aleppo Pine symbolises resilience and longevity, as it grows in poor soils and withstands fires thanks to its ability to regenerate.
