Description

Maritime pine is a conifer in the Pinaceae family, native to the Mediterranean basin. It can reach 30 metres in height and live for more than 500 years. Turpentine is extracted from its resin. For many years, it has also been used to obtain charcoal and tar.

Therapeutically, maritime pine has traditionally been used to treat respiratory illnesses and relieve rheumatic pain. In Catalonia, turpentine was the remedy used by women healers known as “trementinaries”. They would leave home for several weeks to travel through local villages and offer their signature remedy.
The essential oil offers these same properties. Like the essential oils of other pines and firs, it is an excellent antiseptic for the air and respiratory tract.

Appearance: Clear liquid, colourless to light yellow

Solubility: Soluble in alcohol and oil. Insoluble in water

Precautions

Do not use during pregnancy or on children under 6 years of age. Do not apply undiluted to the skin.
