Description

Oregano is a highly valued aromatic plant used to season many dishes, especially in the Mediterranean region. What would a pizza be without a touch of oregano? With pasta, in salads, with roasted vegetables or with cheese, oregano adds that special touch we enjoy so much.

There are several species of oregano, and in aromatherapy it is important to distinguish them clearly from marjoram (Origanum majorana), which is also highly valued in Mediterranean cooking.

Several oregano essential oils are used in aromatherapy:
Common oregano (Origanum vulgare) is the most widespread and is found in various regions of Europe, as well as North America and the Middle East.
Greek oregano (Origanum heracleoticum), as its name suggests, is native to Greece but is also found in Italy.
Compact oregano (Origanum compactum) grows naturally in Morocco and Spain.
This particular product comes from a subspecies of common oregano: Virens oregano.

These essential oils have very similar biochemical compositions and are used interchangeably for the same therapeutic purposes. Oregano is rich in phenols (carvacrol and thymol), among the molecules most active against bacteria, fungi and parasites.

The main area of use for oregano essential oil is infections. It is used for respiratory infections such as sinusitis, bronchitis and tonsillitis, and for digestive infections, particularly infectious diarrhoea. It is also very useful for treating urinary and vaginal infections.

This essential oil is used mainly orally and therefore requires supervision by a healthcare professional.

Appearance: Clear liquid, yellow to dark brown
