Description

Myrtle grows naturally in the Mediterranean basin. It is a small shrub with green leaves that flowers in June. Many legends surround myrtle throughout the Mediterranean. A symbol of beauty, purity and even love, it is often associated with the goddess Aphrodite, who is said to have hidden in a myrtle bush just after her birth. As often happens in Greek mythology, a nymph ends up transformed into a tree. In this case, it is Mirsina, a nymph who aroused the jealousy of the goddess Minerva. The goddess, remorseful after killing the nymph who was transformed into myrtle, decided to devote her love to this plant.
The white flowers have adorned brides' hair and still do in some regions.
In Antiquity, myrtle perfume accompanied priestesses during their rituals and prophecies.
Myrtle was one of the ingredients of the renowned “Eau d’ange”, a perfume that was very successful during the XVIII century.
In Corsica, where it grows abundantly, it is used to make a very popular liqueur.
In Greek folk medicine, it is also used to prepare a syrup for coughs and bronchial infections.

Green myrtle essential oil has a balanced, attractive and delicate aroma. It acts gently on the respiratory system and is particularly suitable for children.
