Description
Lemon verbena is a shrubby plant native to South America, specifically found in Chile, Peru and Bolivia, where it can grow at altitude (up to 3000 metres). The plant reached Europe via Spain in the XVII century.Today, it is grown in several countries, including Spain and France, as well as North Africa, India and the Antilles.
It is widely used to make liqueurs, and its infusion is one of the best known and most appreciated for aiding digestion and sleep.
The aroma of lemon verbena is exquisite. The essential oil is not among the most widely used because of its high cost. However, it offers very interesting properties, particularly for the nervous system.
