Description
Eucalyptus trees are native to Australia, particularly Tasmania. There are numerous species, around 600, and the vast majority produce valuable and varied essences. In the past, eucalyptus trees were planted extensively to dry out swampy areas where insects transmitting diseases such as malaria thrive. They can be found almost worldwide.
In Australia, eucalyptus leaves have traditionally been used to repel insects, reduce fever and treat wounds.
Blue eucalyptus essential oil differs from other eucalyptus essential oils in its distinctive biochemical composition. Most available eucalyptus essential oils are more specifically suited to the respiratory system. Blue eucalyptus essential oil, however, is a powerful anti-inflammatory with a wide range of uses.
Its aroma is very similar to citronella because they share aromatic molecules (citronellal, citronellol). It is refreshing and evokes cleanliness.
Alongside citronella, it is one of the essential oils used to produce Citriodol®, the most effective natural molecule for repelling mosquitoes.
