Description
Aromatic note:Spicy, evocative of pepper and nutmeg, cheerful, slightly woody and citrus, floral.
The curry leaf tree, also called “Kaloupilé”, is a shrub that grows wild in India and the West Indies. It has nothing to do with the famous spice blend called curry, although its leaves are indeed used in Asian and West Indian cooking.
The botanist J.A. Murray gave the plant its scientific name: Murraya koenigii. He first mentioned it in the XVIII century.
This shrub favours tropical forests and, in ideal climatic conditions, reaches a maximum height of four to five metres.
It is highly valued in Ayurvedic medicine, which uses the tree's roots, bark and leaves for various therapeutic applications.
Studies have confirmed similar therapeutic properties for its essential oil. Because it contains notable proportions of beta-caryophyllene, this essential oil can be expected to be particularly interesting for its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties.
The first impression its aroma gives is of smelling an Asian dish, but if we wait a little, we can enjoy its cheerful floral notes and distinctive character.
Precautions
Avoid use during the first 3 months of pregnancy or in children under 6 years of age.
