Description
Obtained from Himalayan cinnamon leaves by steam distillation, its warm, spicy aroma is used in cosmetics and perfumery.
Hand-harvested in Nepal from October to December, the leaves are then naturally air-dried outdoors. Once ready, they are sorted by size to separate those destined for food use (a highly valued spice in the Himalayas) from those used to distil the essential oil. This method of manual harvesting and selection respects high-mountain ecosystems.
High-mountain distillation,
where steam forms at a lower temperature, gives the essential oil a yellowish-golden colour and a distinctive aroma, with a composition rich in linalool (around 40%), followed by 1,8 cineole (around 10%).
Appearance: Clear yellow liquid
Solubility: Soluble in oil, insoluble in water.
Precautions
Do not use this essential oil during pregnancy or on children under 12 years of age. Cinnamon essential oil is strongly dermocaustic and must never be used undiluted on the skin or mucous membranes. The maximum recommended concentration in preparations must not exceed 10 %.
