Description
Siligel - Natural gelling agent
A multifunctional natural gelling agent for the aqueous phase, made from a combination of natural polysaccharides and lecithin. It is specifically intended to create gels, stabilise O/W emulsions, improve particle suspension and adjust the viscosity of cosmetic formulas where an elegant, stable texture is desired.
Its value in formulation goes beyond thickening water: it provides structure, sensory properties and good electrolyte resistance, making it very useful in moisturising gels, light gel-creams, emulsions with mineral active ingredients, formulas containing salts, lotions, sprays, creams and emulsified butters.
Characteristics
- Natural anionic gelling agent.
- For the aqueous phase or pre-dispersion.
- Can be used as a gelling agent, suspending agent, stabiliser, co-emulsifier and sensory enhancer.
- Good resistance to monovalent and divalent electrolytes according to the technical documentation.
- Suitable for cold or hot processing, up to 80 °C.
- Natural origin content according to ISO 16128: 100%.
- A Halal declaration is available in the reviewed documentation.
Suggested usage rate
- Sensory enhancer: from 0,3%.
- Co-emulsifier or stabiliser: from 0,5%.
- Gelling agent: 0,5% - 2%.
- Suspending agent: above 1,2%.
Use in formulation
- Sprinkle over the aqueous phase with vigorous stirring or prepare a pre-dispersion in glycerine.
- May be added to the aqueous phase or at the end of the process, depending on the formula.
- Viscosity may increase during the 24 hours after manufacture; checking the texture the following day is advisable.
- Recommended pH range according to the technical documentation: 2 - 10.
- Avoid introducing moisture into the original container: this is a hygroscopic powder.
Compatibility and incompatibility
- Compatible with oils, esters, natural gelling agents, many commonly used preservatives, chelating agents, antioxidants and systems containing electrolytes.
- Combinations with foaming surfactants must be validated on a case-by-case basis.
- Avoid aluminium salts and cationic ingredients.
- Combining with Caprylhydroxamic Acid is not recommended where odour stability during ageing is required.
