Description
Amyris is a tree in the Rutaceae family traditionally grown in Haiti and the Caribbean, which is why it is often called West Indian sandalwood.Its wood is used to light fires because it contains a highly flammable resin. The essential oil is extracted from the wood.
It reached Europe through Christopher Columbus.
Its essential oil is of particular interest in perfumery and olfactotherapy. Its mild aroma soothes and comforts.
It must not be confused with white sandalwood from Asia. They are very different, both aromatically and botanically.
It is an interesting active ingredient for making anti-ageing cosmetics and perfumes.
Its aroma is very pleasant, slightly citrusy and very comforting.
