Description

Allspice is native to Central and South America. Despite its Spanish name, Jamaican pepper, it is not related to black pepper: it is a completely different spice. It belongs to the Myrtaceae family (like eucalyptus and myrtle).
The fruits are small, round, dark brown berries. They can be confused with black peppercorns because of their size and shape, but their flavour and aroma are unique. The aroma and flavour of these berries recall a mixture of spices, including cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and black pepper. Its flavour is warm, slightly spicy and sweet, making it versatile in cooking. It is part of the well-known "five-spice" blend.

Precautions

Not for use by pregnant women or children. People with kidney or heart failure should use it in moderation.

Do not apply directly to the skin. Dilute in a carrier oil or follow the recommended usage rate for creams and other cosmetics. This rate should be 1% or 2% at most.
