Description

This conifer species, closely related to the genus Cupressus, is native to northeastern Asia, particularly Japan. It can reach around 35 metres in height. Its bark is dark reddish-brown, and its elegant shape resembles that of cedars.

Considered one of the five sacred trees of the Kiso Valley and protected by the samurai of the time, its wood is highly resistant to insects and decay and is used to build palaces, temples and shrines.
Its aromatic wood is used to make incense, and the essential oil is also extracted from the wood.

It is not a very well-known or widely used essential oil, although it has become fashionable in recent years.

Its woody aroma is refreshing and comforting. Suitable for making masculine perfumes, it is also perfect for encouraging concentration and meditation.
