Description

Douglas Fir is the world’s third-tallest conifer. Native to North America, from British Columbia to California, it can exceed 100 metres in height. These trees are also very long-lived: specimens over 500 years old are not unusual, and some over 1000 can be found.

In Spain, it rarely exceeds 30 metres and can be found in Galicia, Asturias, La Rioja, the Basque Country, Navarre and Catalonia (all introduced). In Europe, it is used mainly for reforestation, although it is demanding in terms of moisture (it needs plenty), as well as requiring winters that are not too harsh and summers that are not too hot.

The Essential Oil is extracted from the needles and its composition is as expected for conifers: rich in α and β Pinene, Sabinene, Terpinolene and δ 3 Carene.

Appearance: Clear liquid, pale yellow to pale green

Solubility: Soluble in alcohol and oil. Insoluble in water

Precautions

Avoid use during the first 3 months of pregnancy, except by smelling it. People with asthma must not use it during attacks, and people with epilepsy must not use it. Do not use this essential oil in children under 6 years of age unless directed by a healthcare professional or aromatherapy expert.
