Description

This birch, also known as Betula alba, grows quickly at first and can reach thirty metres in height.

Its bark is white and develops cracks over the years, taking on a darker appearance.
Its crown is fairly rounded and sparsely leafed, with the leaves hanging down.

It grows best in fertile, very moist areas. Its bark was used for writing before paper existed, and today a tar used to treat skin diseases is obtained from it.

Precautions

Do not use during pregnancy or on children under 6 years of age.

Taxonomy

Botanical name: Betula pendula - Family: Betulaceae - Genus: Betula

The common Spanish name “abedul” refers to several different deciduous trees belonging to this genus; the name is sometimes also used for alders (Alnus glutinosa), trees belonging to the same family. The name comes from the Latin betūlla, which in turn is thought to derive from betu, the Celtic word for birch.
Betula is a genus of trees in the Betulaceae family and the order Fagales

Translated review. Birch tar has a very distinctive, smoky smell, but seeing how it works for my seborrhoeic dermatitis makes me forget the smell
