This formula makes the main ingredient the true focus of the recipe. It is not added at a token level: it is formulated at 6% to allow its feel, spreadability, absorption and actual performance on the skin to be evaluated. Isopropyl Myristate is used as the main ingredient for its excellent spreadability and ability to improve slip. The formula is intended for the body and massage, with a cautious warning about facial use. This is a starting suggestion for formulation trials. Before selling it or recommending it as a final formula, stability, smell, colour, container compatibility and skin tolerance should be validated.

Clean the worktop and disinfect the mixing beaker, spatula and final container. Then allow everything to dry completely.

This may seem simple, but it is important: although the formula contains no water, you should avoid introducing moisture or dirt into an oil-based product that will later be applied to the skin.

Weigh the Isopropyl Myristate into the mixing beaker first. It is the main ingredient in the formula, which is why it is added in a high proportion.

The idea is to let you really notice how it behaves: whether it absorbs quickly, leaves a dry feel, provides glide or changes the greasy feel of the formula.

Now add the remaining ingredients, weighing each one carefully. Add them gradually to avoid exceeding the amount and to keep the formula at exactly 100 g.

The supporting ingredients are not there to overshadow the main emollient, but to round out the skin feel, improve massage or provide a little antioxidant support for the oil phase.

Mix without whisking

Stir with a clean spatula or stirring rod for a few minutes. Aim for a uniform mixture, clear or visually homogeneous, depending on the appearance of the oils used.

Do not whisk vigorously. In an anhydrous formula, we do not want foam or trapped air, just an evenly distributed mixture.

Transfer to a clean, dry bottle, preferably amber or opaque. Close the container tightly and clean the outside if any product remains on the screw thread.

Leave to rest for 24-48 hours before assessing the formula. Then check for changes in smell, colour, clarity or feel on the skin.

Apply a small amount to a small area of skin and assess the feel. Facial oils usually require very little product; for body oils, you can use more if you want to massage.

Do not measure the pH of this recipe because it contains no water. If you later add water, hydrosols or aqueous extracts, it would no longer be this formula: a preservative system would need to be added and the pH and stability validated.

Preservation, shelf life and validation

  • Indicative formula for external cosmetic use. Work with clean, dry, disinfected utensils.
  • As it contains no water, it does not need a preservative, but it must be protected from moisture, dirt and direct handling. Do not apply to irritated skin, wounds or mucous membranes.
