How to choose my lavender essential oil
The quality of lavender essential oil is determined by the levels of its main chemical components: linalool, linalyl acetate and camphor. A high-quality lavender essential oil is considered to have a high percentage of linalyl acetate and linalool, but a very low percentage of camphor.
However, all varieties of lavender oil have therapeutic properties to varying degrees and should be used according to the intended purpose. In short, the highest-quality oils would have an almost negligible camphor content, making them ideal for therapeutic purposes, while the more economical varieties with a slightly higher camphor content are recommended for making soaps, natural cosmetics, candles...
What aromatic profile are you looking for?
The chemical components present in essential oils are also responsible for their aromatic profile. The linalool in lavender oil is considered to have a very powerful scent and is largely responsible for lavender’s magnificent, characteristic floral aroma, while linalyl acetate is well known to give the oil a sweet, fruity and slightly citrus scent.
