Description
Lemongrass is a large tropical grass, sometimes called lemon grass or Indian verbena because of its pronounced citrus aroma. It belongs to the same family as citronella and palmarosa. It is widely used and valued in Asia, especially in cooking and herbal infusions. There are two species of lemongrass, Cymbopogon citratus and Cymbopogon flexuosus, both of which yield essential oil.It grows in China, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Central America and South America. It can also be grown in Spain!
It is widely used in Ayurvedic tradition to treat many ailments, including digestive disorders, fever, menstrual pain, depression and headaches.
In aromatherapy, its essential oil is also very versatile. Its calming and anxiolytic actions are particularly notable. It is an important essential oil for stress-related nervous system disorders. It also has digestive and pain-relieving properties and is an excellent antifungal. It improves blood and lymphatic circulation, which explains its frequent inclusion in anti-cellulite preparations.
When its aroma is inhaled attentively, its action on the digestive system is readily apparent: it often stimulates the appetite.
Its delightful citrus aroma inspires joy, optimism, enthusiasm and the desire to act.
