Description

Kanuka is a shrub that grows naturally in New Zealand. It belongs to the Myrtaceae family. It is sometimes confused with a very similar, closely related plant, Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium). However, their biochemical compositions and aromas are very different.
It is also known as "White Tea" in New Zealand.

The indigenous Māori people of New Zealand use Kanuka leaves for their medicinal properties. They attribute antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties to Kanuka and use the plant to treat skin infections, wounds and respiratory illnesses.

Kanuka essential oil is extracted from the plant's leaves and twigs. It is not as well known as Manuka essential oil. It bears some resemblance to Kunzea essential oil, with which it is also sometimes confused.
It has antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties.
Its aroma is particularly gentle, pleasant and comforting.

Solubility: Insoluble in water. Soluble in 90% ethanol (1 volume of oil in 2,8 volumes of ethanol)
