Description
Aromatic note:Spicy, warm, soft, powdery, earthy
Turmeric is a herbaceous plant widely found in India and Malaysia, with many aromatic rhizomes that are yellow or orange inside. It belongs to the same family as ginger and is a spice widely used in Asian cooking. It is the main ingredient in curry, providing both flavour and colour.
The word turmeric comes from the Sanskrit "kunkuma", literally meaning "that which gives colour".
Turmeric is also the source of many beliefs and legends. In India, it is considered a sacred spice. Associated with fertility, turmeric is used during weddings.
In Malaysia, turmeric paste is spread on pregnant women’s bellies and on babies’ stomachs to ward off evil spirits.
In China, it is used to improve circulation and restore vitality.
Today, turmeric is one of the most famous and widely used superfoods worldwide because of its extraordinary therapeutic properties.
Numerous studies confirm its valuable properties, and it is recommended as a healthy natural ingredient deserving a place in our diet to prevent and treat many ailments.
Its essential oil is less well known but no less interesting, despite containing no curcumin. It contains very distinctive molecules (specifically ketones) that are not found in other essential oils.
It is particularly interesting for its digestive and antioxidant properties. It is a fantastic anti-ageing active ingredient that adds a powdery aroma to cosmetics. It is also used in perfumery as a heart note.
Turmeric essential oil is a great ally for delicate, sensitive skin. It is very useful for dermatoses thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.
The aroma of turmeric essential oil is soft and spicy, with a particularly appealing powdery touch. It gives us a pleasant feeling and comforts us.

Mixed with a carrier oil, it noticeably improves eczema and psoriasis. I try to apply it at night and keep the treated areas out of direct sun for the following 24h because of its photosensitivity.
