Description
Argan is endemic to western Morocco, around Esauira. It needs a specific climate, which makes introducing it into other countries very difficult. It can reach up to ten metres in height and has a characteristic squat habit reminiscent of an olive tree. Its berries are fleshy, with oil-rich seeds from which the oil is extracted. It takes one hundred kilograms of fruit to extract only around two litres of oil.
This oil is rich in vitamin E and promotes skin hydration, helping to treat skin disorders. Its linolenic acid content prevents the skin from drying out and increases its elasticity. It is perfect for mature and dry skin, as well as for regeneration and repair in cases of burns, scars or cracks. It is also highly valued for hair care, as it adds shine, nourishes the hair and even helps curb hair loss.
Argan Oil can be deodorised or refined in several ways, resulting in different organoleptic qualities.
The most common method of deodorising Argan Oil is steam distillation. The process involves heating the oil to very high temperatures to remove the volatile compounds responsible for its odour and flavour.
Other methods include filtration using activated carbon, different types of bentonite or diatomaceous earth. This method produces argan oil with no odour or flavour but a more interesting vitamin profile, as it has not been subjected to extreme temperatures.
The Argan Oil you buy from Mi Cosmética Casera is not subjected to heat, giving you a Premium-quality product.
Used alone or combined with other vegetable oils (evening primrose, borage, rosehip, pomegranate, prickly pear...), we can blend it with some of these essential oils to improve the results:
To combat skin ageing: Cistus, Seville Lavender, Yellow Immortelle, Neroli, Rosemary CT verbenone, yarrow, patchouli (1 to 3% in total).
To strengthen hair and prevent hair loss: Ylang ylang, Himalayan Cedar, Atlas Cedar, Fenugreek, Rosemary CT verbenone.
To reduce the appearance of stretch marks: Bitter Orange Petitgrain, Sweet Orange, Geranium, Ylang ylang, Lavender.
It will keep for longer if you store it in a cool, dark place.

Taxonomy
Botanical name: Argania spinosa - Family: Sapotaceae - Genus: Argania
The argan tree grows to 8-10 metres tall and lives for around 150-200 years. It grows in the area between Tiznit and Essaouira. It is thorny, with a rough trunk.
Its small, oval leaves are 2-4 cm long with a rounded tip. The flowers are small, with five yellowish-green petals, and bloom in April. The fruit is 2-4 cm long and 1.5-3 cm wide, with a thick skin surrounding a bitter, sweet-smelling shell; this surrounds the fruits containing 2-3 oil-rich seeds.
The fruit takes a year to ripen, until June-July of the following year.
