Description

Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside

A non-ionic surfactant from the alkyl polyglucoside family, supplied in liquid form with approximately 60% active matter. It is used in cosmetic and hygiene formulations as a mild co-surfactant, solubiliser and cleansing agent in aqueous systems.

It helps incorporate small amounts of essential oils, fragrances or lipophilic components into aqueous formulas, and can improve the foam profile and detergency when combined with other surfactants. It is particularly useful in shower gels, facial cleansers, mild shampoos, rinse-off micellar waters and mild household cleaning products.

Its non-ionic nature gives it broad compatibility with anionic, amphoteric and other non-ionic surfactants, although stability, viscosity, clarity and skin tolerance must always be validated in the final formula. It should not be assessed solely on its mildness: the final pH, total active matter and overall surfactant system are decisive.

Characteristics

  • Non-ionic alkyl polyglucoside surfactant.
  • Approximate active matter: 60%.
  • Soluble/dispersible in water.
  • Main function: co-surfactant, solubiliser and mild cleanser.
  • Helps solubilise perfumes, essential oils or small lipophilic fractions.
  • Suitable for rinse-off cosmetic formulas and mild cleaning applications.
  • RSPO Mass Balance raw material.

INCI

Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside.

Indicative use

  • As a solubiliser: 1% - 5%, depending on the lipophilic load.
  • As a co-surfactant in rinse-off cosmetics: 3% - 10%.
  • In cleaning formulas: 3% - 15%, adjusting detergency and tolerance.

Working pH

Always adjust and check the pH of the final formula. Rinse-off cosmetic products for the skin are usually formulated at approximately pH 5,0 to 6,5. More neutral or slightly alkaline ranges may be used for household cleaning, depending on the intended use, always after validating stability and compatibility.

Incompatibilities and precautions

  • Not suitable for anhydrous formulas.
  • High loads of perfume, oils, salts or electrolytes may change clarity, viscosity or stability.
  • Do not add concentrated acids directly to the surfactant; adjust the pH gradually while measuring.
  • Proposed formulas must be tested and validated before use or sale.

Solubility: Water-soluble; solubiliser for perfumes and lipophilic active ingredients
