Description
Among the properties of Boswellia (serrata frankincense), its anti-inflammatory properties stand out. Frankincense is a gum resin obtained from the branches and leaves of various trees, including Boswellia serrata, which belongs to the Burseraceae family and grows in various African countries.
To obtain this extract, the gum resin undergoes a selective concentration process using a mixture of water and glycerine that draws out the following components:
- Essential oil composed of monoterpenes (pinene, limonene, phellandrene, thujene, myrcene, cymene); sesquiterpenes (copaene, ylangene, cadinene, caryophyllene, farnesene).
- Oxygenated compounds (borneol, bornyl acetate, carvone, verbenone, verbenol, farnesol, anisaldehyde).
- Resin rich in triterpenes.
- Gum made up of galactosides, arabinosides and 4-o-methylglucuronic acid.
Much of the plant's benefit comes from phytochemicals such as boswellic acids, powerful anti-inflammatory agents that block cytokinetic activity in affected areas and improve blood flow to the joints.
Use of Boswellia Extract.
The use of frankincense in religious practices dates back to the most remote antiquity.
The cosmetic use of Boswellia serrata extract is supported by its purifying, disinfectant, antiseptic, balsamic, toning, rubefacient and soothing properties.
It also has anti-wrinkle properties when added to facial creams, thanks to its content of gummy substances that tighten skin tissue.
If cloudiness is observed, it is advisable to dissolve the product beforehand in part of the water intended for preparing the final product and filter after standing for around 12-24 hours.
