The origin of this fruit tree is unknown. Recent studies suggest that it is a hybrid between the mandarin and the orange tree. Apparently, the fruit was named “clementine” in honour of the clergyman who may have been responsible for this hybridisation, a Reverend Clément who lived in a monastery in Algeria.
Clementines are grown in various Mediterranean regions and extensively in Corsica, France.
The fruit has a particularly thin skin and no seeds, with a very sweet flavour and an aroma that clearly distinguishes it from the mandarin.
The essential oil is obtained from the peel and the leaves. In this case, it is the essential oil extracted from the peel by cold pressing.
