For those unfamiliar with the process, Patchouli is rectified in several stages after steam distillation to remove a type of iron oxide it contains naturally, producing variants such as "light, Super light, Dark or Superdark". These names are assigned according to the type and duration of rectification or maceration.
What makes this wonderful Patchouli distinctive is that, once distilled, it is macerated for a minimum of 6 months and then filtered, with no further process beyond the action of Nature and Time.
Essential Oils of this kind are rarities that excite the senses and are not easy to find, because their processing prevents commercial production (resting time, amount of wild raw material...).

General Description
Patchouli is a plant native to Southeast Asia. It belongs to the same family as lavenders, rosemary and mints. The timing of its arrival in Europe varies according to the sources consulted: some mention its arrival during the Crusades, while others say it arrived through England during the colonisation of India. The leaves were used to protect cashmere garments from moths during the journey to England, and that is how the English discovered its fragrance and began using the leaves to scent wardrobes and potpourris.
In France, for example, it is said that Napoleon Bonaparte brought patchouli from Egypt.
In India, patchouli was reserved for the Brahmin caste, who used it in religious rituals.
A symbol of love, prosperity and fertility, its aroma certainly won over perfumers, and its essential oil is an essential part of making oriental perfumes.
In France it acquired a bad reputation at the end of the 19th century, as it was the favourite perfume of Parisian prostitutes.
In the XX century it became a symbol of the hippie movement in the 60s, becoming associated with sexual freedom and gaining its reputation as an aphrodisiac aroma.
Patchouli essential oil has a unique and distinctive composition. It contains sesquiterpenes not found in any other natural substance.
Its aroma is intoxicating, enveloping, deep and intense. Notes of wood and leather stand out. It is relaxing, soothing and comforting.
Solubility: Soluble in alcohol and oil. Insoluble in water
Precautions
Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not use on children under 6 years of age. Do not apply undiluted to the skin or mucous membranes: it can cause burns.
