Description

Niaouli is a close relative of tea tree and cajeput. It is a shrub native to New Caledonia, but it also occurs naturally in New Guinea and Australia. It has been known for its medicinal properties for many years. As early as the Second World War, soldiers in New Caledonia used the essential oil to repel mosquitoes. Local people used it to heal skin wounds, prevent infection and speed up healing.
Initially, a rectified essential oil called Gomenol was produced. It became very popular in France, where it was included in many pharmaceutical products.

There are several chemotypes; the most common is 1.8-cineol. Two other chemotypes can be found: nerolidol and viridiflorol.

Niaouli nerolidol essential oil is not very well known in clinical aromatherapy, but it is used in natural perfumery.

The aroma of this essential oil is very different from that of niaouli of the 1.8-cineol chemotype. Nerolidol, which can be the predominant component of this essential oil, adds a particularly delicate, subtle, floral and very attractive note.

Appearance: Clear liquid, yellow to golden yellow
