Description

Galbanum is the aromatic resin extracted from the roots and stems of Ferula galbaniflua, a plant in the Apiaceae family. This resin has been known and used for various purposes for centuries. It was particularly valued by ancient civilisations, including the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, for its aromatic and medicinal properties.
Galbanum formed part of religious ceremonies and rituals because it was considered a powerful purifying and cleansing substance.
Traditionally, galbanum has been used for its therapeutic qualities. It was attributed antispasmodic, diuretic and healing properties. It was also used to treat skin diseases.
It is an aromatic substance highly valued by perfumers, used as a fixative and base note.
Its aroma tends to divide opinion and does not appeal to everyone.

It is not commonly used for therapeutic purposes in aromatherapy precisely because of its powerful, intense aroma.

We suggest considering this essential oil as an ingredient for making perfumes.
It is often combined with woody notes (pines and firs, cedars, katrafay), as well as with pines and firs (black spruce, Douglas fir). It also pairs well with patchouli, vetiver and frankincense.
