Description

Also known as Potassium Hydroxide. It is a compound similar to Caustic Soda.

Solid at room temperature, it is manufactured from potassium chloride through electrochemical processes.

It is a strongly alkaline substance (high pH) and is therefore corrosive and hazardous to health.

Because it is very aggressive, all necessary handling precautions must be taken.

Our Potash consists of hard, white or almost white flakes.

It is very soluble in water and in 96% ethanol.

Properties and Uses of Caustic Potash

It has an anti-inflammatory effect and is beneficial in psoriasis treatments.

It is also used in wart treatments.

Contact with oils causes saponification, producing potash soaps: handmade soaps that are much milder, firmer and more effective than caustic soda soaps because potash is much more soluble.

In soap production, it can be used as a solid mass (bar soap) or diluted in water (liquid soap).

In bar form, it is widely used for household tasks because of its strong cleaning power.

Potash is also used when preparing cosmetic solutions to adjust the PH.

• It reacts with fat and can cause irreversible damage to any part of the body it touches.
• Because of the corrosive properties of potassium hydroxide, ingestion can be fatal.
• On warts, it must be applied with caution, protecting the surrounding healthy skin with flexible collodion or stringy petroleum jelly.
