Description

At room temperature, caustic soda consists of white, odourless crystalline masses that absorb moisture from the air.

When dissolved in water or neutralised with an acid, it releases a large amount of heat, potentially enough to ignite combustible materials.

Very soluble in water and readily soluble in 96% ethanol.

It is highly corrosive and is generally used in solid form or as a 50% solution.

Our caustic soda is supplied in small pearls, not as a powder.

Precautions

Caustic soda is highly aggressive; it is a strong alkali (pH 14) and must be handled with great care.
Always use protective goggles, gloves and a mask, and ventilate the area
Sodium hydroxide must be stored in a dry place in an airtight container; it is highly hygroscopic.
Keep out of reach of children.

I use it to make very gentle soaps

Translated review. I use it to make very gentle soaps for the skin all over the body, including the face. The most recent recipe, which I really love, uses fresh aloe vera (homegrown), virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax and honey. As it is a very pure caustic soda, the soaps turn out very well.

La utilizo para hacer jabones muy suavesLa utilizo para hacer jabones muy suaves, para la piel de todo el cuerpo, incluída la cara. La receta más reciente que me gusta muchísimo es con aloe vera fresco (de mi propia cosecha), aceite de oliva virgen, aceite de pepitas de uva, aceite de coco, manteca de karité, cera de abejas y miel. Al ser una sosa de gran pureza los jabones quedan muy bien.
