Description
The exact origin of the tree whose fruit we call bergamot is unknown. Some sources say Christopher Columbus brought the tree from the Canary Islands; others say it originated in Italy. The Turks disagree and claim the name comes from the Turkish beg-armadê, meaning “lord's pear”. In any case, we do know that it is cultivated mainly in Italy, predominantly in Calabria.
Bergamot is not an edible fruit because of its very sour taste. Its peel, however, is used to prepare drinks, desserts, infusions and teas (including the famous Earl Grey tea). Its essential oil is concentrated in the peel and is extracted by cold pressing the pericarp.
This essential oil is particularly valued in perfumery and is one of the most common ingredients in colognes and fresh summer fragrances.
From a therapeutic perspective, bergamot essential oil has some similarities to lavender or petitgrain essential oil (bitter orange leaf).
Its relaxing, anxiolytic and antidepressant properties stand out.
It also offers antimicrobial and antiseptic properties.
Its citrus aroma is very attractive and appeals to all kinds of people. It captivates us and takes us on a journey through different “aromatic landscapes”; smelling it never becomes boring. It is refreshing, sparkling, cheerful and fun. It could be the friend we all dream of. It comforts us and makes us forget our worries and sorrows. It may even make us laugh.

Olor cítrico. Muy relajante y en mi caso, me ayuda, junto con otros aceites, a tener controlado mi problema de eritrosis.
