Description
Pure Rosemary hydrolate of the 1,8-cineole chemotype, obtained by steam distillation of the fresh aerial parts of Salvia rosmarinus (syn. Rosmarinus officinalis) grown in dry regions of Tunisia and Morocco. The warm, arid climate favours an aromatic profile rich in 1,8-cineole, responsible for the fresh, herbaceous, slightly eucalyptus-like aroma characteristic of this chemotype.
During distillation, a small fraction of rosemary's volatile compounds dissolves in the distillation water alongside natural water-soluble components. The result is a balanced, gentle, stable aromatic hydrolate, suitable for direct use on the skin and scalp and as the aqueous phase in many cosmetic formulations.
In haircare, the 1,8-cineole chemotype is traditionally preferred over other rosemary chemotypes because of its cleaner, fresher aroma, which leaves the scalp feeling light and refreshed. This sensory affinity has made it a common ingredient in gentle shampoos, hair lotions and mists for frequent use, especially when a fresh, clean feeling is desired.
In facial care, it is used in toners for combination or oily skin, providing a gently purifying sensation. Its aromatic profile also makes it suitable for body waters, refreshing sprays and formulations requiring a clear, natural herbal note.
