Description

Hydroglyceric ivy extract (Hedera helix) is a plant-derived active ingredient obtained from the leaves, stabilised in a water and vegetable glycerine base. Traditionally used in body formulations, it is distinguished by its toning effect and ability to provide a feeling of relief from skin congestion. It is particularly valued in cosmetic treatments intended to improve the appearance of skin in areas prone to fluid retention and cellulite, promoting a toned, well-cared-for appearance.

In addition to its toning action, it helps soothe and comfort the skin, making it suitable for formulations intended for sensitive or fatigued areas. In haircare applications, it provides a purifying, refreshing sensation on the scalp, supporting skin wellbeing and complementing balancing treatments.

Its water-soluble nature makes it easy to incorporate into the aqueous phase of body gels, lotions, toners, O/W emulsions and lightweight cosmetic products. Its chemical profile requires high temperatures to be avoided during formulation (preferably below 40 °C) to preserve its properties. It works well in systems with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, with an optimum stability range between 4,5 and 6,5.

This extract is compatible with most aqueous systems, surfactants and hydroalcoholic vehicles, and is preserved with potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate. Avoid using it in anhydrous media or at extreme pH values, and minimise heat exposure during formulation.

Composition information

Like most of the extracts we offer, this extract is formulated with a water and vegetable glycerine base, which acts as the extraction medium and carrier. Its composition includes approximately 40–60% glycerine, water as the main carrier, and concentrated Hedera helix leaf extract at a proportion of up to 20%, derived exclusively from plant material. To ensure microbiological stability without altering its natural profile, simple preservatives widely accepted in natural cosmetics are used: specifically, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate at concentrations of around 0,5% - 0,7% and 0,4% - 0,6% respectively. This formulation structure maintains the integrity of the plant active ingredient, supporting safe, stable and effective incorporation into all types of aqueous products.

Directions for use

For formulation use, incorporate this extract into the aqueous phase, preferably cold or at temperatures below 40 °C to preserve sensitive plant compounds. Its typical use range is between 1 % and 10 % of the total formula, depending on product type and desired intensity. In natural cosmetics, it is particularly suitable for developing toning body gels, massage lotions, lightweight creams for specific areas, fluid body emulsions, facial toners and waters, and scalp-care products where a refreshing action and a feeling of more toned skin are sought. It integrates easily into aqueous systems, carbomer gels and natural bodycare and post-exercise formulations, offering simple, stable incorporation without significantly changing the viscosity of the final system.

Important: shake before use if slight cloudiness or a natural deposit of plant material is observed.

Effectiveness and use range:

Indicative use level: 1% to 10% in cosmetic formulations using fluid extracts, with an optimum working pH of 4,5 to 6,5. Incorporate into the aqueous phase (water-soluble), keeping the maximum processing temperature below 40 °C to preserve sensitive plant compounds.

Compatibilities and incompatibilities:

Compatible with aqueous bases, surfactant systems, gels and O/W emulsions; avoid anhydrous systems, extreme pH values (below 4 or above 7) and overheating above 40 °C.

Precautions

Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place.
