Description
Triethyl Citrate is an ester of citric acid made by fermenting ethanol and natural citric acid.
This colourless, odourless liquid is widely used as an active ingredient in many deodorants, as it reduces the enzymatic breakdown of sweat, preventing unpleasant odours.
It is also widely used as a perfume fixative or film former in hairsprays and nail varnishes. It is readily biodegradable and has low toxicity before degradation.
Triethyl citrate has been used as a pseudo-emulsifier in electronic cigarette flavourings. It acts as a stabiliser in a similar way to soya lecithin in many foods, but with the ability to evaporate that lends itself to this particular application.
As manufactured, triethyl citrate is stable under normal conditions of use. Avoid contact with strong oxidising agents and exposure to extreme heat, naked flames or other potential sources of ignition.
Use level: from 1 to 5%
