Description

Allantoin is a safe, non-irritating ingredient, highly compatible with the skin and cosmetic raw materials.

A heterocyclic compound derived from purine.

Allantoin is found in many plants, particularly the leaves, roots and rhizomes of comfrey, and can also be obtained synthetically.

It is a white or almost white, odourless crystalline powder.

Slightly soluble in water, very slightly soluble in 96% ethanol and other alcohols, and insoluble in oils and non-polar solvents.

It is fully compatible with cosmetic ingredients and anionic, non-ionic and cationic systems.

Properties and Uses of Allantoin

Applied topically, it acts on cell proliferation in the stratum corneum, accelerating wound healing while also cleansing.

At low concentrations on intact skin, it provides softness and a healthy appearance; on cracked skin, it soothes and supports healing.

It is also used for burns, stubborn ulcers, acne, seborrhoea, psoriasis, ichthyosis and other dermatological conditions.

It stimulates the epidermis, specifically the granular epithelium, where new cells are generated to replace damaged or ageing cells.

Recommended for all skin types, particularly dry and delicate skin.

This active ingredient can be used in countless cosmetics: lipsticks, creams, wet wipes, lotions, toners, shampoos, gels, soaps, protective products, tanning products and baby products (nappy-area care, powders, wipes...)...

Recommended Dosage

Topical use;

In creams, lotions, gels, pastes, solutions, shampoos and powders: 0,1 – 2 %.
In lipsticks, do not use more than 1,5 %.

May cause slight stinging or itching on the skin.
