Description
Butterfly ginger, also known as Longoza fotsy in Malagasy, belongs to the Zingibéracées family. This plant has lance-shaped leaves that can reach up to 2 metres in height. Its white, butterfly-shaped flowers emit an aroma reminiscent of jasmine with hints of vanilla and pastries. Although the flower is highly aromatic, the leaves are distilled to obtain the essential oil. Production is extremely limited, requiring over 4 tonnes of leaves to produce one kilogram of essential oil, making it rare and costly.
Appearance: Clear liquid, light yellow to yellow
Solubility: Insoluble in water
