Description

Leptospermum petersonii is a plant native to Australia and New Zealand. It belongs to the same family as tea tree, which may be why the plant is called "Lemon scented tea tree".
It is a small shrub that can reach up to 8 metres in height. Very aromatic, its leaves, stems and flowers give off a strong lemon scent when touched.

Lemon-scented tea tree has traditionally been used in Australian Aboriginal medicine for its medicinal properties. It has been used to treat various ailments, including external treatment of respiratory problems and muscular pain. It has also been used as an insect repellent because of its citrus aroma.

Appearance: Clear liquid, colourless to light yellow.

Solubility: Soluble in alcohol and oil. Insoluble in water.

Botanical name: Leptospermum petersonii - Family: Myrtaceae - Genus: Leptospermum

It is a large shrub or small tree of 5 m, cultivated as an ornamental and for essential oil. It grows naturally near sclerophyll forests or in rainforests, or on rocky or sandy escarpments, on the east coast of Australia. It has simple leaves, 20-40 mm long, with a distinctive lemon scent. The flowers are white and are followed by woody capsules.
