Description

Jasmine is a shrub in the Oleaceae family that can grow to six or seven metres tall. It is a climbing plant with white flowers that grow in small clusters and have an intense fragrance. Absolute essential oil is obtained from these delicate flowers. It is extracted using a costly method called “Effleurage”; the flowers are picked at night, when they are most fragrant, and release their essential oil over several days. Around 3,5 million flowers are needed to obtain just half a kilo of essential oil. Because of its fragrance, it is considered a sacred flower in India, where women can often be seen adorning their hair with it.
