Description

The genus Thymus comprises a large number of species. It belongs to the Lamiaceae family and grows in the Mediterranean region. It is a very hardy plant, able to withstand very high temperatures precisely thanks to its essential oil.
Thymus vulgaris is the most common species.
In the not-so-distant past, this small aromatic plant was well known and appreciated for treating respiratory conditions and certain infectious problems. Today, it remains a very important medicinal plant in herbal medicine.
It was widely used for medicinal, religious and magical purposes. Thyme flower: the Egyptians added thyme to preparations used for embalming, while the Greeks scented their temples by burning the plant and used it to fragrance bathwater.
For the Greeks, thyme symbolised courage.
The Romans also used thyme to purify the air. Before going into battle, soldiers bathed with thyme to give themselves strength and courage.
During the Middle Ages, it was used to mask unpleasant smells, particularly those of meat and fish. At that time, Culpeper credited thyme with the power to ward off nightmares.
In more recent times, thyme has been used as a culinary herb.

Moroccan thyme, as its name suggests, is native to Morocco and is also endemic there.

The genus thymus provides various essential oils with different properties and uses.

Translated review. This thyme is less well known, but an excellent immunomodulator. I combine it with rockrose to modulate the immune response

Una joya

Este tomillo es de los menos conocidos pero un inmunomodulador excelente. Lo combino con la jara para modular la respuesta inmunitaria
