Approved by Ecocert.
Liquid ZCS Surfactant is a chemical compound known for its versatility and ability to improve the effectiveness and safety of natural cosmetic products.
Main uses
- Shampoos and conditioners: Improves hair cleansing and conditioning, providing softness and shine.
- Shower and bath gels: Helps create a rich, creamy foam, leaving the skin soft and clean without drying it out.
- Liquid soaps: Increases cleansing ability and foam in soaps, improving the user experience.
- Creams and lotions: Acts as an emulsifier, allowing better absorption of active ingredients into the skin.
- Facial care products: Contributes to cleansing and skin softness, as well as improving formula stability.
- Make-up removers: Makes it easier to remove make-up and residue from the skin without damaging or irritating it.
Benefits of using Liquid ZCS Surfactant in formulas:
- Greater mildness and effectiveness in cleansing skin and hair.
- Greater compatibility with other ingredients and surfactants, allowing more complex and effective formulas to be created.
- Reduced skin irritation and redness thanks to its mild nature.
- Improves the stability and shelf life of cosmetic products.
- Facilitates the incorporation of active ingredients into formulas, allowing greater penetration and effectiveness.
Preservative effect as pH varies:
Liquid ZCS Surfactant can act as a preservative in cosmetic products, particularly at an acidic pH. Lowering the formula's pH enhances its preservative effect, as it inhibits microorganism growth and extends the product's shelf life. However, it is important to note that Liquid ZCS Surfactant is not a preservative in itself, but can contribute to preserving the formula in combination with other preservatives.
Surfactant type and behaviour as a primary or secondary surfactant:
Liquid ZCS Surfactant is an anionic surfactant, meaning it has a negative charge in its structure. Although it can act as a primary surfactant in certain formulations, it is more commonly used as a secondary surfactant. Its use as a secondary surfactant improves the cleansing, foaming and emulsifying properties of primary surfactants, while also reducing skin and hair irritation.
Typical use percentages
- As a primary surfactant: use from 10 to 15%.
- As a secondary surfactant: use from 1 to 5%.
- For a preservative effect: increase the % according to the formulation and other preservatives present; it may vary between 0.5% and 2%.
In summary, Liquid ZCS Surfactant is a versatile and valuable ingredient. Its use in different products improves cleansing, mildness and formula stability, while offering additional benefits such as reduced skin and hair irritation.
Solubility: Liquid for the water/surfactant phase; cold or prolonged storage may cause cloudiness or sediment, reversible with gentle warming.
