Description
Gentian violet, also known as crystal violet or Basic Violet 3, is a dye in the triarylmethane family. This product is identified by CAS 548-62-9 and is supplied as a dark crystalline powder.
Restriction on use
Do not use to formulate cosmetic products in the European Union. The dye CI 42555 (Basic Violet 3) is listed in Annex II, entry 380, of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, covering substances prohibited in cosmetic products.
Do not use this raw material for self-medication, to treat infections or for application to the skin, eyes, mucous membranes or wounds. Historical medical uses of the dye are not instructions for using this product.
Handling and storage
Avoid generating or inhaling dust. Wear clothing, eye protection and protective equipment appropriate to the safety data sheet. It can heavily stain skin, fabrics and surfaces. Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, dry place, out of reach of children.
Precautions
Do not use in bentonite suspensions, creams containing zinc, acidic media or organic matter.
