Description
The plant Alpinia galanga, belonging to the Zingiberaceae family (like ginger), is known as greater galangal or true Indian galangal. Its root is used to make Kulanjan powder, also called laos, galangal root or Thai ginger. In its countries of origin, it is commonly used as a seasoning, but it is also used medicinally to prevent weakness, loss of appetite and flatulence, and to aid digestion. It also has an analgesic action and has traditionally been used to soothe toothache and even muscular, rheumatic and joint pain.
In addition, it contains compounds with antioxidant properties that help protect against ageing by removing toxins from the body, improving circulation and thereby supplying extra nutrients to skin tissues. Its antiseptic and cleansing action helps keep skin clear, soft and free from blemishes, preventing acne. It is also used on burns to reduce pain and scarring.
This plant stimulates collagen production in the skin, making it useful for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness.
It is also used to treat the hair and scalp, promoting growth, preventing hair loss, revitalising dry, brittle hair, preventing split ends and combating dandruff.
Precautions: Powdered product. Wearing a mask is recommended.
