Description
Our erythrulose is synthesised and produced by aerobic fermentation of the non-pathogenic bacterium Gluconobacter, followed by a series of purification processes, and is suitable for vegans. Erythrulose is a clear, pale-yellow liquid.
Erythrulose: Natural Self-Tanning Agent
Description: Erythrulose, a high-purity, water-soluble self-tanning agent, is obtained through natural fermentation methods. This formula interacts with the amino groups of keratin in the outermost layer of the epidermis, providing an even, lasting tan without sun exposure.
Benefits:
- An even, natural tan: It uses a Maillard-like reaction to produce a soft, even brown shade without streaking.
- Self-tanning without UV exposure: Provides a tanned appearance without sun exposure. Erythrulose is not a sunscreen, and the resulting tan does not replace sun protection.
- Versatile and easy to incorporate: Ideal for formulators, it can be combined with other products for improved efficacy and is suitable for applications in both skin and hair products.
Applications: Ideal for incorporation into creams, lotions and hair products intended to add or improve self-tanning properties.
Erythrulose allows a beautiful, natural-looking tan without sun exposure; this colour effect does not provide protection against solar radiation.
In detail
Erythrulose is a natural keto-sugar capable of reacting with the amino acids of keratin in the outer layers of the skin (the stratum corneum of the epidermis). This reaction produces a temporary brown colour, similar to that produced in the Maillard reaction. It is not a dye or colourant, but a chemical reaction that changes the colour of the entire treated area, much like what happens to a cut apple exposed to oxygen. On the skin, the visual effect is comparable to a tan produced by the sun's UV rays. However, as skin constantly regenerates and sheds its outermost layers of dead cells, the tan is temporary and can last from 2 to 10 days, depending on the type of application and skin type.
It is formulated at between 1 and 10%, with 3% being the most common level in homemade creams.
