• PLANT:

Echinacea, Echinacea purpurea, Echinacea angustifolia and Echinacea pallida, is a medicinal plant native to North America, where it was already used by indigenous populations. It is a herbaceous plant from the North American prairies that can reach up to a metre in height. It has a deceptively wild appearance, with beautiful flowers like those you might find on a country walk, simple in appearance, with pink and purple colouring and an orange or yellow centre.

• COMPOSITION:

The composition of echinacea includes essential oils, organic acids, flavonoids, tannins, hydroxycinnamic acids (ferulic, chicoric, coumaric, caffeic), polyamines, saponins, ehinatsin, ehinolonom, echinacoside (a glycoside containing caffeic acid and catechol), resins and phytosterols, as well as inulin, betaine, glucose, phenolic carboxylic acids, essential and fatty oils, and resins.
Every part of this plant contains Echinacea enzymes, antioxidants, organic acids, vitamins A, E, C, macroelements (calcium, potassium) and trace elements (selenium, cobalt, silver, molybdenum, zinc, manganese).
Active constituents such as quercetin and rutin (both flavonoids), free phenolic acids, glycoproteins, polysaccharides and essential oil containing borneol are some of the compounds that give echinacea its medicinal properties.

• COSMETIC PROPERTIES AND USES:

Among its many properties, it is a powerful wound-healing agent that can be applied topically to treat various conditions, such as wounds, burns, eczema, psoriasis, herpes, bites, boils, haemorrhoids and abscesses, among others.
This plant is very effective in treating dermatological problems such as acne. It also helps to remove pigmentation marks and freckles, reduces skin inflammation and smooths wrinkles.
Rinsing with its infusion can also treat gum infections (gingivitis, periodontitis, etc.).
It can also be used to improve hair growth, as it adds shine and prevents dandruff.

Its use is not advised for people with autoimmune diseases, pregnant women (the effect of echinacea on the foetus has not been sufficiently studied), breastfeeding mothers, people with leukaemia, tuberculosis or rheumatism, or those with high blood pressure;
