Description
Chewing gum originated in the forests of south-eastern Mexico and northern Central America, where Mayan culture began two thousand years ago. The Maya were the first to collect the sap of the chicozapote tree, which was abundant in the area. Once dried, it formed a chewable gum used to clean the teeth or stave off hunger.This gum was called “sicte”, which eventually entered the Spanish language as chicle.
