Description

Betaine Hydrochloride (HCL) is a remarkable multifunctional ingredient that provides various benefits for skin and hair when incorporated into formulations. It is a white crystalline powder. Commonly used as a food supplement in sports nutrition, here we use it in cosmetics.

Properties:

Betaine is a 100% natural skin moisturising and conditioning agent approved by Ecocert. Highlights include:

• In moisturising creams: betaine binds to water molecules, trapping moisture in the skin and improving its overall hydration. It helps rebuild and repair the skin barrier function.
• Wrinkle reduction: betaine temporarily reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
• Anti-irritant: soothes irritated and inflamed skin. An ideal additive for glycolic acid exfoliating creams to offset irritation caused by glycolic acid. It is also ideal for products intended to treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and similar conditions.
• Skin brightening: may help reduce the appearance of blemishes and hyperpigmentation.
• Texture improvement: improves the texture of creams and lotions by creating a softer, silkier skin feel on application.
• In shampoos and hair lotions: improves dry and damaged hair while also adding shine.
• Co-solubiliser: betaine HCL is a co-solubiliser for allantoin and salicylic acid. For example, combining propanediol and betaine allows easy incorporation of salicylic acid and/or allantoin into water-based formulations.

Betaine HCL is also known as trimethylglycine hydrochloride, (carboxymethyl)trimethylammonium inner salt hydrochloride, lycine hydrochloride or oxyneurine hydrochloride.

Please note:

Bear in mind that when dissolved in water it hydrolyses, and almost 25% of its weight becomes hydrochloric acid, resulting in very low pH values.

Precautions

Keep out of reach of children. Store in a tightly closed, dry container and protect from direct light and moisture at a temperature no higher than 30ºC.
