Description
Mother-of-pearl powder is a natural organic-inorganic composite made up of hexagonal aragonite platelets arranged in continuous, parallel layers. These platelets are separated by layers of elastic biopolymers, giving the material great strength and resilience. The iridescent appearance of nacre is due to the interference of different wavelengths of light reflected by the aragonite platelets.

Origin
