Description
Green Tea Extract 90% - Polyphenols
A powdered botanical extract of Camellia sinensis, highly concentrated in polyphenols, intended for cosmetic formulas requiring antioxidant support and protection against environmental oxidative stress. Its concentration means it is used at low doses, with colour, stability and compatibility requiring validation in the final formula.
Green tea polyphenols, particularly catechins, are widely studied in cosmetics for their antioxidant profile and their value in products for dull skin, skin exposed to environmental damage, after-sun formulas, toners, aqueous serums, masks and hair products. Do not formulate with it as though it were a liquid water-glycerine extract: this product is a concentrated powder.
What It Is Used For
- Helps strengthen the antioxidant profile of aqueous formulas and emulsions.
- Useful in face and body cosmetics, after-sun products, toners, gels, masks and hair products.
- May add colour to a formula; test beforehand in light-coloured products.
- Protect from oxidation, light, heat and alkaline pH to preserve the polyphenols.
Use in Formulation
- Indicative starting dosage: 0,05% - 0,5%. Consider higher doses only after testing stability, tolerance, colour and compatibility.
- Solubility: water-soluble/dispersible in the aqueous phase. Predissolve in water, glycerine/propanediol or part of the aqueous phase before adding.
- Addition phase: preferably during the final or cooling phase, below 40 C.
- Recommended pH: work at an acidic-to-neutral cosmetic pH; avoid alkaline pH for catechin/polyphenol stability.
- May darken or change colour over time if the formula is not adequately protected against oxidation.

- Final formulas must be tested and validated before use or sale.
Indicative Use Examples - Green Tea 90%
- Aqueous serums and toners: 0,05% - 0,2% to add antioxidant polyphenols to the aqueous phase. Predisperse in water, glycerine or part of the aqueous phase.
- Face or body gels: 0,1% - 0,3% for antioxidant support in formulas with an acidic-to-neutral cosmetic pH.
- Occasional-use masks: 0,1% - 0,5%, bearing in mind that it may add colour and alter the final appearance.
- Cosmetic after-sun products: can be incorporated for antioxidant support in aqueous bases or emulsions, always validating colour, odour, pH and tolerance.
- Aqueous hair products: may be considered for hair tonics or gels, avoiding alkaline pH and prolonged heat exposure.
These are incorporation examples, not a complete recipe. Green Tea Extract 90% is highly concentrated and must be tested on a small scale. It may darken the formula, change colour over time or add visible colour, so protect it from light, air and heat.
Solubility: Water-soluble/dispersible in the aqueous phase; pre-dissolve before adding
