Description
Caraway belongs to the large Umbelliferae family. It is sometimes called meadow cumin and is, in a manner of speaking, cumin's close cousin. It is used to season stews, cheeses and drinks, particularly in Nordic countries.
Seeds have been found at prehistoric sites and in Egyptian tombs, indicating that this plant has been consumed for centuries. In Spain, it is mentioned in recipes dating back to the sixteenth century.
Its aroma is distinctive and subtle, with a very faint hint of spearmint.
Cosmetic applications:
1. Antimicrobial and purifying: ideal for formulations intended to cleanse the skin deeply and prevent infections. It is used in products for oily or acne-prone skin because of its ability to regulate sebum and combat bacteria.
2. Helps combat free radicals, preventing premature skin ageing.
3. Reduces skin irritation and redness, making it useful in products for sensitive skin or conditions such as dermatitis.
4. Its relaxing, warm aroma is used in bath and well-being products such as bath salts, shower gels and body lotions.
5. In scalp products, caraway essential oil can relieve itching and strengthen hair follicles. It stimulates blood circulation in the scalp, which may encourage hair growth.
7.Helps strengthen nails and prevent fungal infections.Precautions:
Like all essential oils, it must be diluted in a carrier oil before direct application to the skin.
It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or children under 6 years of age, without professional supervision.
Appearance: Clear liquid, ranging from colourless to pale yellow
