• PLANT:

Hamamelis virginiana, or witch hazel, is a shrub that can reach 7 metres in height, with oval leaves that are asymmetrical at the base. Witch hazel is native to North America, although it is cultivated worldwide. It is also popularly known as avellano de bruja, or witch hazel in English.

• COMPOSITION:

Witch hazel leaves contain essential oil rich in alcohols, esters, carbonyl compounds and safrole, phenolic acids, choline, leucoanthocyanosides, a flavone glycoside, tannins, a mixture of gallic tannins, condensed catechols and procyanidols.

• COSMETIC PROPERTIES AND USES:

All the components mentioned have a strong anti-inflammatory action, so one of the most common uses of this plant's water is soothing relief. Its astringent action also helps reduce inflammation, so if an area of your skin is swollen, or you have a bite, scratch, bruise or skin condition, you can use it to reduce inflammation and relieve discomfort.
