Description
It is a viscous, golden-yellow, slightly opalescent liquid with a very mild odour.
It is soluble in water, ethanol, ethyl acetate, methanol and chloroform.
Practically insoluble in fatty oils and liquid paraffin.
It is derived from sorbitol and oleic acid.
These non-ionic surfactant emulsifiers produce stable, finely textured emulsions with an external aqueous phase, relatively unaffected by high electrolyte concentrations or changes in pH.
Properties and Uses of Tween 20
A surfactant whose stability and lack of toxicity allow it to be used as a detergent and emulsifier in different applications.
Used to solubilise a wide variety of substances, including essential oils, perfumes and fat-soluble vitamins.
Also used as a liquid cleansing agent and solubiliser in hair care products, toiletries, perfumes and fragrances.
It also prevents water and oil from separating and is a powerful humectant, ideal for moisturising creams and toners.

Recommended Dosage
Topical use;
- Emulsifier: 1 - 15%
- Increasing water retention: 1 - 10%
- Solubiliser: 1 - 10%
- Humectant: 0.1 - 3%

Precautions
- Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.
